As the time for us to leave draws closer, we are growing stronger as a team. Bonfires, worship practice, skit practice, meetings. Though these are important gatherings to sharpen our skills and knowledge in these areas, there is an underlying reason for them. We are preparing to live together for a week, learning to rely on each other.
Building a team requires different players. We can’t all be the pitcher (my favorite sport is baseball), and we can’t all play first base. Imagine a baseball team with all catchers. Who would throw the ball? Or a football team with all kickers, or a hockey team with all goalies. It wouldn’t work. They couldn’t play the game.
In the same way, we as the Mexico Mission Team can’t minister to the fullest extent if we were all singers, or dancers, or teachers, or all on medical team.
God has blessed this team with all these things and so much more!
Talents and gifts are abundant! Some of my team members will be able to reach people that I can’t. That’s why we have all been chosen to take this journey. This year. With these people.
If we make ourselves available and give this trip completely to Him, powerful things will happen!
Romans 12:4-8 says:
For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
The family of Christ is so unique! So many different people, so many different gifts and talents! Yet we are one body. We laugh together, cry together, sing together, hurt together, heal together. Our goal should be unity under Christ.
Ephesians 4:4-6:
There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call — one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
