Kentucky Wildcats. Have you ever heard of them? Even if you do not follow college basketball, maybe you have heard of this amazing team that made it to the Final Four in what is known as March Madness. What you may not know is this team has been one of the biggest upsets in this tournament. Take a look at their team roster. The 2013-2014 team consists of 2 Seniors, 3 Juniors, 2 Sophomores, and 9 Freshmen! Did you read that? 9 Freshmen!!! I remember when I was a freshman in high school – everything was unfamiliar and made me nervous. Can you imagine what these freshmen must have felt once they joined one of the most prestigious basketball programs in the country? Especially knowing that they would have to carry the team because they outnumbered the upperclassmen?
The regular season was rough for our Wildcats though it was great for a group of underclassmen who never played college ball before. Just to put this in perspective, take a look at the Final Four teams’ stats:
Florida Gators: Ranked #1; 36 wins, 2 losses
UConn Huskies: Ranked #7; 30 wins, 8 losses
Wisconsin Badgers: Ranked #2; 30 wins, 7 losses
Kentucky Wildcats: Ranked #8; 28 wins, 10 losses
According to those stats and to the professionals who know this sport, Kentucky should have been defeated in the second round. For us true Kentucky fans, we know to never underestimate the power this team can generate when they play together and work hard. The Wildcats play with heart, endurance, perseverance, focus, and trust. They have their eyes on the prize. Even if they don’t finish #1, at least they will go out knowing that they worked hard and did the best they could do. Take a look at the video below. Make sure you really listen to the words that the coach and the players choose to use.
Team Mexico 2014: Are you ready to be the biggest upset? The world is expecting you to fail. Or, are you going to walk on that mission field, focused and trusting your teammates and leaders to do the right thing? Are you ready to endure hardships and persevere through challenges? Most of all, is your heart in it? You can’t join in the game if your heart isn’t in it. Let’s be the biggest upset this year. Let’s show the world what God can do with just a few people from Downriver Christian Community Church. As quoted from the video: “There are no schemes as to what we have to do – we just have to play to win it.”
Let’s play to win! We defeat the enemy with each step forward. Our victory is found with every soul added to the Kingdom of God. And remember, if we practice as a team, we will play as a team.
It’s game time, folks. Are you ready?
In it to win it.
