Hello Friends! Or should I say Hola Amigos?
This will be my second mission trip to Mexico. The first one was three years ago, and my how things have changed. I first committed to going back to Mexico about two years ago after “Fast Eddie Medrano” preached a highly motivating sermon on overcoming fear and how fear stopped him from going on past mission trips. He preached that fear was not going to stop him this time. Unfortunately for Eddie who overcame this fear, his mission trip dreams were dashed by his employer.
While Eddie was very discouraged, I reminded him of how God used his sermon to motivate me as well as others to go on this trip. About 30 seconds after Eddie preached that day I came up to him and said I wanted to be the first one to commit to going with him as brothers in arms on this mission.
Fast forward about 18 months…
My wife Kristy and I found out that our daughter Alex is expecting our first grandchild. And the due date is within days after the mission trip. The first thing Alex said was “Dad, you can’t go on this trip. You have to be here for the baby’s birth.” I told her, “I’m sorry, honey, but I’ve already committed to going and God will take care of everything.” After some time had passed, she reluctantly agreed.
1 Corinthians 6:19 says my life is not my own. And that I have been bought with a price. It is now my desire to do His will and not my will. I’ve spent enough time doing my own thing, and God’s way is so, so much better.
I am so stoked to be going on this trip. God has put such a passion on this mission team for the lost souls in Mexico. We are praying, fasting, exercising, practicing our songs, practicing our skits, practicing our dance, and – unlike Allen Iverson – we see the value in practice because the souls of many spiritually hungry men and women are on the line!
I just have one thing left to say………………….Are you ready Team Mexico 2014?
Your brother & fellow soldier in Christ,
Brian
